Ms. Martinez-O’Reilly’s practice focuses on assisting individuals plan for and navigate the probate process after a loved one’s death in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Because she began her career as a family law litigator, Ms. Martinez-O’Reilly is especially attuned to the tensions that may arise in the aftermath of losing a family member or cherished community member and prioritizes clarity amongst the parties. From preparing fiduciary accounting for an estate to highlighting potential tax liabilities to working alongside financial advisors and accountants after preparing your revocable trust, Ms. Martinez-O’Reilly strives to advocate on her client’s behalf at every stage of the legacy creation and continuation process.
Prior to joining BBS&G, Ms. Martinez-O’Reilly worked on complex estate administration and tax matters at a small firm in Bethesda. She spent two years as a solo attorney during her transition from a divorce and child support attorney to an estate and trust administration attorney. As a family law attorney, Ms. Martinez-O’Reilly began her career at the House of Ruth Maryland, assisting survivors of domestic violence to address their multifaceted needs. She pivoted to divorce and child support more generally, with a focus on mediation and settlement that guides how she works with fiduciaries—those individuals appointed to administer an estate or trust—and beneficiaries or heirs in her current role.
Ms. Martinez-O’Reilly was a former fellow at the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland, where she did pro bono works in the areas of consumer protection, immigration, estate planning, and tenant advocacy in Montgomery and Prince George’s County.
