Andreas N. Akaras focuses his practice in the areas of government affairs, business, and litigation. He represents individuals, institutions, and businesses that are seeking to improve their operations or overcome complex legal challenges. Mr. Akaras is a former staff member for Congressman John P. Sarbanes with substantial experience working on grassroots campaigns, national campaign committees, and gubernatorial transition teams. He understands how government policies impact economic, civic, and individual interests, and uses his understanding and experience to advance his clients’ interests.
As lead counsel or co-lead counsel in numerous Fair Labor Standards Act collective and class actions, Mr. Akaras has helped recover millions of dollars in unpaid wages for thousands of employees throughout the United States. He has also represented individuals in class action lawsuits seeking recovery for defective products and unfair trade practices, and he has defended the human and civil rights of individuals seeking political asylum and immigration privileges in the United States.
Mr. Akaras is the founder of the Saint Andrew’s Freedom Forum, a non-profit association that promotes awareness of matters affecting democratic liberties, human rights, and religious freedom in the United States and Europe. He was a non-resident Fellow and Professor of Practice, Innovation, and Public Policy at the Dukakis Center for Public and Humanitarian Service at the American College of Thessaloniki, Greece. He speaks fluent Greek and elementary Spanish.
